Hunter is currently leading several local pilots of the National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) to improve climate and health information for enhanced heat-health resilience. He is also a founding member of the Global Heat Health Information Network (GHHIN), serves on its steering committee, and is working to plan the second GHHIN Global Forum in Copenhagen.
Hunter serves on the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Board on Environment and Health, and is planning the 11th Conference on Environmental Health to take place in January 2020. Finally, Hunter is leading the US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) Climate and Health Monitor and Outlook (CHMO) effort to provide experimental seasonal health information on heat, vector- and water-borne disease based on climate predictions.
He has a Master’s from Duke University where he developed species distribution models under future climate scenarios, and is working toward a PhD in climate and health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
